Quotes
I realise we have favourite movie/tv quote threads, but what about quotes in just general?
You hear some amazing ones, some funny, uplifting, depressing, yet utterly memorable.
I have a calenday at work that has a new quote every day, I'll start posting them daily, and feel free to add your own favourite quotes.
Some personal favourites of mine include;
"Such is life" - Ned Kelly
"A true friend stabs you in the front" - Oscar Wilde
"Only those who dare to fall greatly, can ever achieve greatly" - Robert F. Kennedy
"War does not determine who is right - only who is left" - Bertrand Russell
Wednesday November 12, 2008 - "Those who only tell half the truth often live to regret it" - W.G.P

just a paraphrased version of;
Tom Green wrote:"Be more optimistic: Because all the people you hate are going to die eventually"
although I think Tom Green stole the quote form somewhere else. Sounds like an Oscar Wilde type quote

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." - Mark Twain
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move." - Douglas Adams
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet.” - William Shakespeare [Romeo & Juliet]
"There’s no such thing as society." - Margaret Thatcher
"If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman." - Margaret Thatcher

"That is really amazing," he said. "That really is truly amazing. That is so amazingly amazing I think I'd like to steal it." –Zaphod
Ford stood up. "We're safe," he said.
"Oh good," said Arthur.
"We're in a small galley cabin," said Ford, "in one of the spaceships of the Vogon Constructor Fleet."
"Ah," said Arthur, "this is obviously some strange usage of the word safe that I wasn't previously aware of."
"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep space that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young."
"Why, what did she tell you?"
"I don't know, I didn't listen."
"No, no Marvin," lilted Trillian, "that's just fine, really...just part of life." [...]
"Life," said Marvin, "don't talk to me about life."
"If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now." –Zaphod
Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again.
The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards-somersault through a hoop whilst whistling the 'Star Spangled Banner', but in fact the message was this: So long and thanks for all the fish.
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

"One thing I truly knew - knew it in the pit of my stomach, in the center of my bones, knew it from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet, knew it deep in my empty chest - was how love gave someone the power to break you." - Bella Swan.
That quote is from the book New Moon (I think).
One of the twilight books anyways.

"Seeing much, suffering much, and studying much, are the three pillars of learning." - Benjamin Disraeli.
I think the first two points (seeing much, suffering much) refer to life in general... although i guess you could relate the last point (studying much) to the study of ones self.

"He who doesn't risk never gets to drink champagne." - Russian Proverb
I'd have thought it would have been vodka considering it's Russian.
What a gross stereotype on my behalf.

"Education is not a product: mark, diploma, job, money-in that order; it is a process, a never-ending one." - Bel Kaufman
So what Kaufman is saying is that without education you can't get money? Well duh, you need some form of education. Hate to state the fucking obvious.

"Common sense and a sense of humour are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humour is just common sense, dancing." - Clive James.
I don't mind this quote... It's a nice little analysis.

Indeed they are practical, but too bad these days neither things are "common".

I feel I need to add..
'The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.'
'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'
'But,' say Man, 'the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.'
'Oh dear,' says God, 'I hadn't though of that' and promply vanishes in a puff of logic.
'It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.'
